Elias – New Day, New Chapter to the Saga

Daddy time

Day 6: Tuesday:

We love our sweet boy, Elias, so much and are loving every day with him!
The medical staff are all very nice.  We feel so blessed to have such great care and resources.

Medical Updates:

First thing, had a test on his lower extremities to see how certain organs function.  This is not very conclusive because of his age, but so far, no immediately concerning evidence. (Thank you, Lord!) Dr.’s were a little unclear about one area, but either way, it will be continue to be monitored over his early years as he grows and develops.  {common for children with Spina Bifida}

Surgeon Team
Dr. B came and Elias is now able to be on his back for limited times!  Yay!!  This makes holding him so much easier, and he is loving it! 🙂  Imagine lying flat on your back for the first time?!  Crazy!

She updated us that the surgeon team is meeting soon to decide on his release and how to respond to his hydrocephalus at this time (it is stable, but not decreasing yet).  His next head ultrasound will be Wed. morning.

Met with a neo-natal physical therapist.  They see lots of hope for Elias’s movement.  He kicks his legs and has a lot of strength (yay!); we will just see over time how we can help him strengthen his muscle tone.

More daddy time

We had a good day overall.  One of mommy and daddy’s most relaxed days so far, but still on the go in this environment of 24/7 care.

As a parent, I am so in awe of the intricate design that God has in our human anatomy!  I also am just amazed at modern medicine, and how we have come so far in learning and studying SO many aspects of how we function!  We live in a time with so many resources.

“You go before me and follow me.

You place your hand of blessing on my head.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too great for me to understand!”

Psalm 139: 5-6

We are surrounded by babies (and their families) with various high-needs in their fragile state of life, and we are reminded how precious each day is.

Thank you friends and family for caring and praying with us during this journey!

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body

and knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!

Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”

  Psalm 139:13-14

  1. Sweet Krystal,
I haven’t stopped praying for you and baby Elias. He’s perfect! What a precious gift from God. I know sometimes our “light and momentary afflicttions” dont seem light or momentary at all. But you are not alone. Jesus is with you every step of this journey. I’m praying that God will do whatever brings Him the most glory. Just having you walk through this in the NICU I know He has already used you and your husband to glorify Him. Your faith, your testimony , that is your eternal weight of glory! Love you!
